Winter Reef Fishing

Posted by: | Comments (0)

We have made several trips out to the reef this winter with good results each time. There are some big redfish, lots of black sea bass, sheepshead, weakfish, and other bottom dwellers. The spiney dogfish sharks are already starting to show as well. We have been using fiddlers, shrimp, minnows and gulp baits for fishing. The sheepshead bite has been really good and the bsb are always around. We are picking the days that the winds are not blowing to make for a fun, safe trip. Just remember to wear layers to keep warm on these colder days.

Sept. Fishing

The Redfish bite has been real good lately. We are catching them on live shirmp at the jetties, on docks and in the creeks. We are starting to catch some decent trout as well. The Sheepshead bite has not been great so far this month. The fish are nice sized but just not many of them. Fiddler crabs has been the most productive bait but we have caught some on live shrimp.

Early Fall Fishing

The nearshore reef has been really good lately as the waters are cooling off. We have been catching redfish, sheepshead, weakfish, black drum, black sea bass, ladyfish, and other bottom dwellers using crabs, shrimp or artificials such as Zman shrimp or gulps.

Spring fishing

The waters are warming up and the summer species are starting to show. We are catching Bonnethead sharks on shrimp or crab in the rivers and still catching Sheepshead on the docks using fiddler crabs. The Trout fishing has been terrible but the reef fishing is really doing well with catches of Sheepshead, Black Sea Bass, Blask Drum and Weakfish.

Winter Fishing

Inshore fishing on lower tides has been productive for Sheepshead and some Redfish. The Sheepshead are eating fiddler crabs or live shrimp fishing around docks and pilings.
